Spruce Cliff Volunteer Opportunities

Looking to get more involved in the neighbourhood. Here are a list of some current volunteer opportunities available:

Association for the Rehabilitation of the Brain Injured

ARBI transforms lives of individuals with acquired brain injury through rehabilitation , community integration and outreach programs. All ARBI’S clients have comprehensive rehabilitation programs tailored to their unique goals. Volunteers will receive extensive training from ARBI’s clinical professionals and soon become part of our dedicated and highly skilled team.


  • Available one weekday from 9am-11:30am or 1-3pm
  • Able to make a minimum of 9 month/90 hour commitment

Ultimate Wheelchair Sports Foundation

We have several programs to volunteer for:

  • Weekly training sessions at Spruce Cliff with our Recreational Handcycling Program Monday and Wednesday evenings
  • Jr. Adaptive Cycling and Wheelchair Racing Program at U of C or Glenmore Park Sunday afternoons
  • Touring handcycling rides Canmore-Banff Saturday or Sunday (about 2 times / month)
  • We also need volunteers for photography and social media management

Tasks of a volunteer includes:

  • Assisting members transferring into their handcycle and back into their wheelchair
  • Ride with our members to ensure safety
  • If interested, minor mechanical things like adjustments of equipment etc.
  • Moving handcycles out of and into garage / storage container / trailer

We offer training for our volunteers and volunteer appreciation at the seasons end social event.

Nicholls Family Library

We have a link on our website about volunteering at the library which explains all of the opportunities available and the contact information. It is:


Adult programs that utilize volunteers at Nicholls Family Library are: Career Coaching, ESL Conversation Club, Homebound Readers, Learning Advantage and Special Events. We do not currently offer programs that use youth volunteers, however, Signal Hill Library and Calhoun Library do have these programs.


West Central Resource Centre

Women’s Sewing Group

The Women’s group offers a safe, interactive, supportive learning environment for women of diverse cultures to connect with others in Spruce Cliff. This fall the women’s group is looking to host a series of sewing classes to strengthen the skills of the women involved in the program that runs every Thursday from 1-3pm. If you have some time and sewing knowledge and skills to share or interested in supporting with childcare 6-8 weeks then please contact Minoush at 403.630.4260.

We are also looking for some extra sewing machines as well, so if you have any that are collecting dust that you would like to donate we are happy to except them.


Homework Club

This program is designed to assist children grades 1-6 in Spruce Cliff to identify the academic areas they are in need of more support with and assist in those areas as well as help with homework needs. The program takes place Tuesdays from 3:30-5:00pm. They are always looking for more caring adults and youth to help with reading and homework so if you’re interested then please contact Gatluak at 403.616.7957.
